His suffering being for others:

Old Testament Prophecy:

Isaiah 53:4-6--712 B.C.  Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

New Testament Fulfillment:  
Matthew 20:28--A.D. 30  just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."


Preceded by John the Baptist

Old Testament Prophecy:
Malachi 3:1--397 B.C.  "See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come," says the LORD Almighty

New Testament Fulfillment:
Luke 1:17--6 B.C.  And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."    


Entering Publicly into Jerusalem

Old Testament Prophecy:
Zechariah 9:9--487 B.C.  Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 21:5--A.D. 30  "Say to the Daughter of Zion, `See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'"


Working Miracles and to Save

Old Testament Prophecy:
Isaiah 35:4-6--713 B.C. say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you."  5Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. 6Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.

New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 11:4-5--A.D. 28  Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.  


Patience and silence under suffering

Old Testament Prophecy:
Isaiah 53:7--710 B.C.  He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:12--A.D. 30  When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer


The virgin birth

Old Testament Prophecy:
Isaiah 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
New Testament Fulfillment:

Matthew 1:23    The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."


To be born in Bethlehem

Old Testament Prophecy:
Micah 5:2  "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times
New Testament Fulfillment:

Matthew 2:6  "`But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'


To be called out of Egypt

Old Testament Prophecy:
Hosea 11:1 "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. 
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 2:15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."

Old Testament Prophecy:
Jeremiah 31:15This is what the LORD says: "A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more." 
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 2:18 "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."


Prepare the way for the LORD

Old Testament Prophecy:
Isaiah 40:3  A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 3:3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, `Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"


The people walking in darkness have seen a great light

Old Testament Prophecy:
Isaiah 9:1-2 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan--2The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
New Testament Fulfillment:
Matthew 4:16  the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
