Ephesians
5:8-14
For you were once
darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and
truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do
with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in
secret. 13But everything exposed by the light becomes
visible, 14for it is light that makes everything visible. This is
why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ
will shine on you."

From
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Ephesians 5:
Sinners, like men
in the dark, are going they know not whither, and doing they know not
what. But the grace of God wrought a mighty change in the souls of many.
Walk as children of light, as having knowledge and holiness. These works
of darkness are unfruitful, whatever profit they may boast; for they end in the destruction of the impenitent
sinner............................
and further he says:
After the example of prophets and apostles, we should call on those asleep and dead in sin, to awake and arise, that
Christ may give them light.
