Daniel 2:1-23    God’s Hidden Kingdom:  Revelation in the Face of Imposters
BPC 9/1/02  AM Service

You see, you and I live among a population (a world wide people group) that is open and permissive to … no, more than that, that is accepting and embracing anything that presents itself as new and as wisdom; looking not only to the hybrids of Christianity which are not Christian at all, to the false religions and cults that have been around for some time but now are more easily distributed due to the informational age we live in, and are even turning toward the East as some are calling it the “fountainhead of pure wisdom” with its  Witchcraft & Wizardry, it’s Magicians, Enchanters, Sorcerers & Astrologers, … JUST AS were found in the days of Daniel.  As the writer of Ecclesiastes puts it “There’s Nothing New under the Sun!”

The world today, just as in the days of Nebuchadezzar is searching for answers.  It’s people are troubled deep within, and though they are not quick to share that which troubles them most, they are looking to any and everything to ease their pain and scratch their itch, even it is only temporary and ultimately will not provide them with true and lasting and fruitful solutions (for example, alcohol, drugs, entertainment, the new age movement, eastern mysticism, etc.)  The world today is not only ignorant when it comes to possessing the answers that it needs, but it is confused when it comes to where or to whom it should look in finding by true wisdom and the solutions that truly save.

Because God, out of his mercy, makes known the mystery of his kingdom to his servants, we must believe on him that we might not perish with the rest, rather… that we might respond in praise!  That’s what we find in Daniel 2!

The so-called “Wise Men of the World” DO NOT have the answer concerning the mystery of God and of his kingdom and they are not able to articulate and explain what God is doing the present and in the future!

If you know the God of heaven (God of the Bible) IS the source of ALL wisdom and power, shouldn’t you be URGING your friends and family to look to him for mercy as well?  Question:  Are you?

Daniel 2:24-49    God’s Hidden Kingdom:  Revelation in the Face Our Responsibilities
BPC 9/1/02  PM Service

Because God has made known the mystery of his kingdom to us, we must make known the mystery to others that Christ might be glorified!  We do that by communicating the mystery to others, but interpreting the mystery for others, and by standing behind the mystery before others.

The God of the Bible, in making known years in advance, the rise and fall of secular kingdoms as well as the coming and establishment of his own kingdom has done what no other can do!

At the same time that God is able, and has raised up and lowered the kingdoms of this earth, he has also raised up an eternal kingdom through his Son Jesus.

Daniel 1 God’s Matchless Provision
BPC 9/1/02 AM Service

Four Reasons for Studying Daniel:

1.  Regardless of the world’s situation or our circumstances, God is always in control and at work in our lives.

2.  Just because the Messiah has come and we have embraced him doesn’t mean there is an easy road ahead.

3.  We need to be reprogrammed according to Scripture to live our lives according to a biblical world and life view.

4.  God can use as few people, whose lives are built on him and dedicated to his glory, to make a tremendous and long term impact on both the church and the world.

A person today can justify just about anything and everything we want.

Regardless of the circumstances we face, we must be willing and determined to deny ourselves rather than defile ourselves in our service before the king. This is true – no matter who you are, what you are tempted with, who you are tempted by, or what others are doing.

1 Cor 1:4-9 Chist Confirmed! BPC 10/13/02 PM Service

Despite all our imperfections, because of the grace given us in Christ, we have great reason to be thankful and praise the Lord!

When a person is in Christ, it changes everything!

We need to be thankful for our new position, our new standing, our new hope, our new future, our new calling in life.

We need to be thankful for one another and the grace given us in Christ.

We need to be thankful that all that we need will be given to us.

We need to be thankful that the Father will keep us strong and provide that we might be found blameless in the coming judgment.

John 7:25-44     The Flow of Faith
BPC 10/6/02  AM Communion Service

If you and I will go (and continue going) to Jesus, we will find our need will be replaced with living waters.

If you want to find and experience spiritual fullness, you must go to Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles.

Responding to Christ by faith will result in continuous refreshment, filling, nourishment and power.

Jesus invites us to come to HIM!

Psalm 45      Splendor and Majesty
BPC 10/6/02  PM Service

Psalm 45 is an Album of that which leads us to Christ’s wedding with his Church.

Christ’s church needs to meditate upon the groom.

We are to be moved, not just in heart, but in mind.

If the processional is this noble, can you imagine what the wedding will be like?

Ruth 4:13-22     Remembering the Lord in Redemption
BPC 9/2202  AM Service

Outline:  The Reception of a Redeemer ought to (1) Fill us with Gratitude; (2) Fill others with Gratitude; and (3) Fill us all with an Optimistic Attitude

The Church, and the individual,  that is truly thankful for the Lord’s redemption… will LONG for that Redeemer to be made known.

We must embrace our Redeemer in a similar way to the way he takes hold of us if our neighbors are to be moved by the blessing in our lives.

What might God do through your life if you will revere his name, commit your way to him, and walk in obedience?  Only the Lord knows, but as the Book of Ruth shows:  God does have a plan, and he does plan to work through your life and mine.

Ruth 4  Recognizing the Lord in Redemption
BPC 9/22/02  AM Service

Christ, in providing for the dead through redemption calls on us to honor and participate in his redemption!

In the same way Boaz met the legal and judicial requirements of the law in providing redemption for Ruth, Jesus Christ met the Legal and judicial requirements of the law in order to provide redemption for us.

In the same way Boaz redeemed all the property of Elimelech’s family, Jesus Christ redeemed all the inheritance that belongs to us.

We are to BE WITNESSES!  WITNESSES even by the way We Live our Lives!  This means desiring that the church might bear children for Christ, that Christ might be known even among the least of his people, and that those borne into sin might come to be a part of the family.

Matt 26: 36-46  Help Against Being Too Preoccupied To Pray
BPC 9/22/02  PM Service

Because Prayer makes a difference, we need to keep watch and pray!

We need to be watchful and pray even though our bodies are weak; even though our eyes get heavy; and even though our prayers have been heard before.

Ruth 3  Relying on the Lord for Redemption
BPC 9/15/02  AM Service

This chapter provides us with an earthly picture of what it looks like to present ourselves and come under the care of our divine redeemer.

Because we have a relative (kinsman-redeemer) who is willing to redeem us, we must rely upon the Lord of the rest that comes thru his redemption

We must look to the Lord that we might be WELL PROVIDED FOR”

In order to Find the Rest that Comes thru Redemption, we must:

I.                     Be willing to do whatever it requires

II.                   Be willing to rest upon the word of the Lord

III.               Be willing to wait and leave matters in God’s hands.

Ruth 2:1-23  Resting in the Lord for Reward
BPC 9/8/02  AM Service

Because God’s blessing rests on those who take refuge in him, we should look to the Lord for favor.

God has given us his word that we might understand the requirements and nature as well as the bounty and certainty of his favor, all with a view toward our trusting him for it, Turning to him to receive it, thanking him as we anticipate and receive it, and Telling others about it … that he might be recognized for the kindness he bestows upon his people.

We Learn here…(1)  The favor of God is unmerited, but may be found as we go about the business He’s called us to; (2) The favor of God is far more abundant than we would ever imagine; and (3) The favor of God will follow his faithful until his work is finished.

Gal 6:1-5  Righteousness in Restoration
BPC 9/8/02  PM Service

To be most effective in displaying God’s glory, there must be unity among God’s people.

To be most effective in displaying God’s glory, there must be righteousness and restoration among God’s people.

To be most effective in displaying God’s glory, there must be communication and cooperation among God’s people.

Ruth 1:6-22  Returning to the Lord for Rest
BPC 9/1/02  AM Service

Regardless of our circumstances, God’s people must be resolved by faith to find our rest in the Lord.

The Unavoidable Question & Unashamed Confession of Faith; The Unbelievable Kindness and Unthinkable Confidence of Faith.

The Unchanging Character and Unwavering Commitment of Faith.

The Lord contends with his people, but he will not contend with them forever!

True Faith does not turn or change just because the circumstances do not look good at the moment.

True faith possesses and displays a determined resolve to go the long haul.

The Providence of God is always perfect in providing for his people.

1 Cor 7  Such a Confidence
BPC 9/1/02  PM Service

Marriage has been instituted by God and is to serve his glory.

Marriage is governed by God’s Word.

The effect of failed marriages is brokenness that reaches far beyond those getting the divorce and far beyond the time of the divorce.

Spiritual Maturity affects the maturity and fruit of the marital relationship.

Our Marriages are to reflect and display the relationship between Christ and his Church.

Ruth 1:1-5  Ridding of the Lord for Ruin

BPC 8/25/02  AM Service

The Book of Ruth calls for all God’s people to REVERE HIM

The Book of Ruth calls for all God’s people to TAKE REFUGE in HIM

The Book of Ruth offers hope to people who are empty, discontent, dissatisfied or feeling down and out.

Sometimes God brings sorrow & affliction into our lives to get our attention and to cause us to rest and rely on him.

God afflicts his people wit a view toward blessing them and causing them to look to him in all things.

Isaiah 60   BPC 8/18/02  AM Service

Because God’s glory rises upon his church, God’s church must rise to display his glory!

The Church is not the creation of man, but the work of God by which he intends to display his own glory and splendor!

God’s plans and promises ought to motivate us toward (1) Holiness in the midst of helplessness; (2) Faithfulness in the midst of faithlessness; & (3) Hopefulness in the midst of brightness

John 6:35-40     Just As I Am      BPC 8/18/02  PM Service

God brings his people to a point of understanding our inabilities and insufficiencies, that we might look outside ourselves to trust solely in him.

There are points in our lives where we fail to come to Christ ourselves, and where we fail to set Christ before others as we should.

When it comes to salvation, you and I have nothing to offer God, except that which he provides for us!

We must come to Christ looking not to what we have done, but to what He has done for us.

Hebrews 13    Such a Superior Life, Part I
BPC 8/11/02  Morning Service

Our sacrifice to God is one of praise not one of merit.

Our entire lives are to be a sacrifice of praise.

Our sacrifice must be offered through Jesus; not thru a Jewish priest, through Mary, through Mohammed, through our dead relatives, or any other means derived by man… if they are to be acceptable and pleasing to God.

Our Love is to be characterized by Concern, Charity, Compassion, Chastity, and Contentment.

Hebrews 13    Such a Superior Life, Part II
BPC 8/11/02  Evening Service

Sometimes there is comfort and strength in knowing that others have been down the path you find yourself in and to learn and grow from their experience.

Offering a sacrifice of praise can be hard because our old nature is opposed to it,; but offering sacrifices of praise in difficult situations can prove to be even harder.

When it come s to our spiritual lives, there is no time for games     We need the grace that comes from God.. grace that forgives, grace that enables grace that strengthens, grace that is acceptable.

There IS a difference between doctrines, denominations, and ministries.

Hebrews 12:14-29 Such a Superior Service
BPC 7/28/02 AM Service

OUR RESPONSE to the grace God gives us is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!

Because of the greater measure of grace with which God has revealed his grace to us, we ought to be more apt to glory in God, in his Salvation, and in his Word!

We have not just a display that God can shake and judge that which is earthly, but his promise that he will and shall remove all that proves not to be of a lasting nature.

God commands us (1) to pursue peace and perfection; (2) to be pastoral in our relationship with others; and (3) to perpetrate purity and piety.

Hebrews 12:1-13  Such a Superior Attitude
BPC
7/21/02  AM Service

To persevere in the faith, we need to (1) Purge ourselves from all that gets in our way; (2) Pursue him who is all when it comes to the perfection of our faith; and (3) Perceive of all discipline as the means of achieving our reward.

Lots of things can keep us from competing in and completing our kingdom service.

There’s something therapeutic about looking to Jesus and his example, for not only does it bring healing, but it provides motivation and power for going on and facing and remaining faithful in the greatest challenges to our faith.

If God uses hardship and discipline in our lives for good, we should not grumble and complain against it, but ensure that we are trained by it.

Often, though our greatest problems seem to be in the physical realm, God uses the difficulties in this realm to deal with the condition of our soul.

1 Tim 6:17-19  Taking Hold of Life
BPC 7/21/02  PM Service

The lessons of Enron & Worldcom ought to say a lot as to where we put our hope today.

Because we live in an age where it is common to put one’s trust in riches instead of in God, we must be all the more diligent to protect ourselves in this area of our lives.

On a national level, we have come to see how small things can affect our wealth, but on the level of the individual, the trust we place in riches, the confidence we place in our bank accounts, and the measure of self worth and public worth we gain from our net worth has not changed.

We are RICH as believers, and as citizens of the United States.

Our wealth is not to become for us a basis of hope and security.

Our resources give us greater opportunity and obligation for doing good.

Hebrews 11     Such a Superior Goal

PROMISE of Faith – God COMMENDS FAITH, so we need to serve him BY FAITH!

PRECEDENT of Faith – God, in creation, set a PRECEDENT that ALL THINGS work according to a principle of FAITH.

PEOPLE of FAITH – These people exercised the SAME faith that we are called to exercise.

Hebrews 10:19-39     Such a Superior Confidence
BPC 7/7/02  AM Service

One must not just know the truth, but ACT ON the truth if they expect to receive the reward of the righteous.

Believers MUST live lives CONSISTENT with the hope they confess.

Consistency results in:  (1) Personal Desire and Closeness with God; (2) Personal Conviction and Unwavering Commitment to the Gospel; and (3) Personal Commitment to and Participation In the Community of God

There are ultimately two ways:  Eternal Destruction and Eternal Salvation.

Galatians 4:12-2     Gospel Joy
BPC 7/7/02  PM Service

When a person is not living in accord with the calling of the Christian life, they will not experience the joy of the Christian life.

When a person is living in accord with the Christian Life, they do not to run from problems, but participate in the solution to the problems.
